Thurs platenabefaling – august 2010

I have heard very much on Peter Brötzmann in recent years, both in concert and on records. I have heard him in the most diverse settings, from solo and duo to tentetten, and I become more and more convinced that he is one of the most, largest in today's jazz.

Peter Brötzmann Chicago Tentet + 1: “3 Nights in Oslo”. (Smalltown Super Jazz 2010).

I have also noted a change, or rather the development of his game. There was a lot of violent aggression and powerful kick in the game his former. Now he is much more nuanced, with much more dynamics in the expression. Now he can at times be very lyrical, while he also has the strength and power intact. Fortunately!

In February 2009 played Peter Brötzmann Chicago Tentet three evenings at the National Jazz Scene, Victoria in Oslo. These are the concerts that are now released in a box with five CDs. For the occasion was the eleven musicians on stage. It is an amazing music experience to follow these musicians coming on stage without event and without preparation and still creates the fascinating musical path. And only rarely plays them all at once. Large parts of these concerts consists of smaller constellations that logically become clear. We will hear duospill with drummers Paal Nilssen-Love and Michael Zerang, trio of saxophonist Ken Vandermark, Mats Gustafsson and Peter Brötzmann, trumpeter and saxophonist Joe McPhee in concert with cellist Fred Lønberg-Holm, the two trombonist Johannes Bauer and Jeb Bishop in sparkling duel, and much, more!

It is an indescribable force, vitality and intensity of this music. It is tremendously dynamic and full of surprises, and it is totally engaging throughout the entire box.

I was lucky enough to be present in two of those three eventful music evenings at the National Jazz Scene. When tentetten return to the same venue this October, I will make sure that I get with my absolute all three concerts!
